Private gardens and residential landscapes are a living, abundant expression of their owners, their personal style and their individual aesthetic. Gardens are also a refuge, a sanctuary, an architectural adornment, and a thriving, evolving art form. At Alice Cooke Design Associates, we help you define and realize your vision in a way that fits with your life, your family and your home. We create landscape and garden designs that will add beauty and ease through all seasons. (continued below)
When working to develop a landscape design with you, there are:
- Initial meetings to determine your needs, preferences and objectives
- A review of the relationship of your existing landscape to your house and its architectural style
- We note the natural character inherent in property, known as genus loci or spirit of place, and work to enhance and preserve this character
- We do a site analysis to determine dimensions, slope gradients, solar orientation, existing plant materials, soil quality, drainage and privacy issues
Once this survey is completed, the garden design process begins and includes:
- A review of gardens styles appropriate to your property, plant palettes to consider, outdoor activity areas, traffic patterns
- Presentation of conceptual sketches and/or design concept thumbnails
- A review of masonry, fencing, garden structures and architectural features based on design concept approval
- The presentation of to-scale drawings with all plants, garden architecture and construction materials specified for the approved design concept
Once a plan for your landscape design has been approved by you, garden installation can begin. During installation, we oversee the subcontractors, selection of materials and the overall project development. We encourage you to be involved in this process.
